For creating employment avenues for the local unemployed youth, an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) was established in the year 2010 under the aegis of BSL's CSR. Initially started with two trades of Electrician and Welder with 52 students, the institute (now known as Bokaro Pvt. Industrial Training Institute) is being run through Bokaro Ispat Educational Trust, a Public Charitable Trust. To provide benefits to more youths, the ambit has been expanded with addition of more trades like fitter and units. The ITI imparts quality education and the students are provided on the job training in Bokaro Steel Plant for skill development. On 26 Aug 2010, The Directorate General of Employment & Training, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India granted affiliation to the Institute for two trades of Electrician & Welder from Aug., 2010 session. Viewing the great demand for ITI Admission & Training ,The Trust applied for affiliation of an additional 1+1 unit in Electrician and 2+2 unit of Fitter trade from Feb 2012 session. On 26 Feb 2012, NCVT under Director General of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour, Government of India has accorded approval for the same Ministry of skill Development and Entrepreneurship has implemented Dual System of training (DST) in August 2016 on similar pattern of training in Germany and Switzerland. Accordingly, Bokaro ITI Signed an MOU with Bokaro Steel Plant as Industry Partner (via BIET) and applied to National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) for Dual Mode approval. There was a Prompt response from MSDE, Govt. of India. The approval was granted on 4th October,2016 for another 100 seats. With this the ITI become the first four ITIs, in India to start DST. Out of 288 total seats approved in 2016, 100 seats were for Bokaro ITI, which has been appreciated at national level.
After the new approval of 100 seats, our total strength becomes 300, 200 under Craftsman Training Scheme regular mode (CTS-Regular) and 100 under Craftsman Training Scheme-Dual system of training (CTS-Dual).
The criteria for selection of candidates are based on merit order prepared on percentage of marks in five subjects of Class X. and admission is done through counselling process on the basis of merit list of applicants. Reservation in admission is given to ST,ST , OBC & local displaced ( 26% for ST, 12% for SC , 12% for OBC & 20% displaced of total seats). Bokaro ITI runs with a vision of 100% Placement record of their trainees, for every academic session. Due to Proper Education System & BSL Plant training, our Trainees become skilled with good academic records. They have competed and got selected in various PSUs like SAIL, BHEL, HPCL, ONGC, BPSCL, Indian Defence Services. Bokaro ITI has also maintained an excellent relation with various Private organisations & Industries like Welspun India Ltd, TVS Motors, Hero Moto Corp, Maruti Suzuki & Tata Motors for Trainees placements assistance. Around 110 trainees are now serving as Regular/Contractual/Apprentices form in Main/Ancillary units of these organisations.
